⭐️ Our curriculum ⭐️

Children access a personalised curriculum matched to their developmental stage rather than chronological age. Learning pathways draw from Development Matters, EYFS Early Learning Goals, and Key Stage 1 National Curriculum expectations.

Progress is monitored using a bespoke assessment system designed specifically for the Rainbow Room to capture granular, small-step achievements.

Core programmes include:

 Read Write Inc. Phonics

 Mastering Number

 Jigsaw PSHE

EYFS Framework & KS1 National Curriculum

⭐️ How We Deliver Learning ⭐️

Practical Circle Times (Group Sessions): Foundation subjects and Science are introduced through interactive, multi-sensory group sessions that spark curiosity and model core vocabulary before tasks are differentiated.

Targeted Work Baskets (Individualised Direct Teaching): Precision teaching focused on individual targets, delivered via 1:1 adult support, small groups, or independent tasks across all subject areas.

Targeted Interventions: Dedicated, specialist programmes to address individual developmental needs.

⭐️ Themed Curriculum Cycles & Continuous Provision ⭐️

Our learning is structured around multi-year rolling curriculum cycles that directly shape our continuous provision and classroom environment:

Breadth Without Repetition: Ensures children spending multiple terms or years in the Rainbow Room experience a broad, non-repetitive range of themes and knowledge.

Real-World Connections: Meaningful contexts link learning directly to real life and everyday experiences.

Story-Centred Approach: High-quality core texts sit at the heart of each theme to develop communication, language comprehension, and a love of reading.

Theme-Led Continuous Provision: The active theme shapes our enabling environment across the Early Learning Goal areas:

 Communication and Language

 Personal, Social and Emotional Development

 Physical Development

 Literacy

 Mathematics

 Understanding the World

 Expressive Arts and Design

 Sensory and Regulation Opportunities

Interventions & Meeting Need

Interventions are embedded throughout our daily timetable to support learners based on their individual needs, EHCP outcomes, and developmental stage. We draw on a wide range of specialist approaches, which may include:

Cool Kids: An Occupational Therapy programme to support core stability, balance, coordination, and motor control.

Attention Autism: Structured sessions using engaging stimuli to build focus, shared attention, and communication.

Communication & Language: Tailored communication support, drawing on approaches such as Colourful Semantics for sentence building and Information Carrying Words (ICWs) to develop comprehension, alongside individual SALT targets.

Regulation & Communication Supports: Daily visual timetables, Now/Next boards, AAC systems, Social Stories, and sensory spaces to keep learners regulated and ready to engage.

Targeted 1:1 & Small Group Work: Personalised learning adapted as needs change to target specific developmental milestones.

🏠 How do We Communicate With Our Families? 🏠

In The Rainbow Room, we believe that strong relationships are the heart of a happy, successful learning journey. When teachers, children and families feel connected and supported, our little learners thrive and our families feel like true partners in everything we do.

We see communication not just as information-sharing, but as building a warm, trusting team around your child. You’re not just welcome here, you’re part of our Rainbow Room family. 💖

👋 Daily Check-Ins
Every morning and every home time, you’ll be greeted by a friendly member of our team.

These moments allow us to:

  • check in on your child’s wellbeing
  • share quick updates
  • offer reassurance
  • listen to anything you’d like to share

We know that calm, positive handovers help children start and finish their day feeling settled and safe and help families feel at ease too.
