World Book Day 2025

As this year’s World Book Day approaches, with the theme: “Helping Children Read their Way”, I thought it would be a good idea to remind you of how to help your child with reading at home, as well as explain our plans for celebrating reading on the 7th March.

As you know, we ask you to support your child reading at home at least 4 times a week, and record this in their reading diary. This does not have to be a big chore: ALL READING IS GOOD READING. Children can read comics, magazines, graphic novels, story books, newspapers, poetry or information books. Older children are welcome to record their own reading in the reading diaries, all we ask is that you keep an eye on what and how they are reading and keep talking to them about their reading.

Research shows that those children who engage with reading more regularly have better outcomes throughout their education, so it is really worth developing those good habits as early as possible. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

For World Book Day, we will be celebrating this on FRIDAY 7th MARCH.

This year, we would like to invite children to dress up as a book character, as it is several years since we have last taken part in any dressing up. If you have any old costumes that your children no longer use or have grown out of, please consider donating them to school and we will offer them for children to borrow for the day, or use at lunchtimes for imaginative play.

We would also like to repeat last year’s STAY and READ session at the start of the day, where we will be inviting family members in to class to share some reading time with your child. This will be from 8:30–9:00am on Friday 7th March.

We have lots of exciting plans to include the children in positive reading habits throughout the rest of the day and are looking forward to some buzz and excitement around reading.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
