Water Safety and Back Gate Open

The winter seems to have settled in and temperatures have certainly dropped! Thank you for your patience this week as we have endeavoured to keep our site safe, yet open for the children through all of the snow disruption and the inevitable ice that followed.  I’m pleased to say the back gate will be open at collection time today but please do take care on the playground and around the site as there are still a couple of patches of ice/snow in some areas.

I have had a report of several children playing near to one of the ponds around school, investigating the ice forming over the water and attempting to stand on it.  While frozen ponds may appear safe, they can be extremely dangerous. Even by the edges of a body of water, thin ice can give way without warning, leading to serious accidents. It is vital that children understand the risks and are encouraged to avoid playing near frozen water.  As a school, we will also be discussing how to stay safe around water with the children to reinforce this message. I would like to encourage you to have similar conversations at home if you have not already done so to ensure everyone stays safe during this chilly season.

Best wishes to you all
