History and Geography
Statement of Intent
At Dothill School we believe that History helps to stimulate the children’s interest in and understanding of the past, both in Britain and the wider world, within a chronological framework. Children are encouraged to ask, and answer questions using historical vocabulary to help them develop this understanding and recognise that our knowledge about the past is constructed from a range of sources. Our curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive and transferable to other areas of the curriculum .It enables the children to view History as being essentially about people, their development over a period of time and their influence on the world around them and that it is also a process of enquiry, using evidence available to us, from which we are able to draw conclusions about what life was like in the past, helping us to understand the world today. We believe that learning how History has shaped our past, helps to promote responsible attitudes and develop an understanding, which will encourage the children to become responsible ,caring citizens for the future.
Statement of Intent.
At Dothill Primary School we believe that Geography helps to promote and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum at Dothill School enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives: to promote the children’s interest and understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Our curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, as well as transferable, throughout their time at Dothill School and also to their further education and beyond.
